GUWAHATI, Feb 15: In a major step toward revolutionizing cardiology services in the Northeast, three internationally acclaimed cardiologists visited PA Sangma International Medical College and Hospital (PIMC) at USTM on Saturday. Their mission: to provide strategic guidance for establishing a cutting-edge cardiology center at the institution.
The distinguished guests included Dr. Subhash Chandra, Chairman of Interventional Cardiology & Structural Heart Disease at BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi; Dr. M.U. Rabbani, eminent cardiologist and former Dean at JN Medical College, AMU; and Dr. N.D. Azam Haseen, Professor & Chairman of Cardiothoracic Surgery at JN Medical College, AMU.
During their visit, the experts toured PIMC’s Super Speciality Block, evaluating infrastructure and engaging in high-level discussions to enhance cardiology services. USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque emphasized the importance of their insights, stating that their recommendations would be instrumental in shaping PIMC’s future in heart care.
A standout moment was their interactive session with the first batch of MBBS students. Dr. Subhash Chandra underscored the importance of personal well-being and communication skills in medicine.
“A good doctor is first a healthy person. This field is challenging—never let failures discourage you. Effective communication is crucial; being a good listener can ease half of a patient’s suffering. Above all, be a good human being. Patients see doctors as next to God,” he advised.
Dr. M.U. Rabbani reflected on the rapid evolution of medical technology and the timeless essence of doctor-patient trust. “Despite advances, medicine remains an art—its foundation is patient confidence,” he remarked.

The cardiologists also laid out their vision for PIMC’s future cardiac care center, sharing strategic recommendations with faculty and doctors. Their expertise is expected to play a pivotal role in transforming PIMC into a premier hub for cardiology in the region.
