Global experts convene at NEHU to explore AI’s impact on business and society

Shillong, June 20: An international conference on the theme “Contemporary Issues in Business, Management and Social Sciences in the Era of Artificial Intelligence” was held on Thursday at the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Tura Campus.

The primary objective of the conference was to facilitate discussions among scholars and industry experts from the fields of business, management, and social sciences, aiming to analyze and understand the evolving business and social environment in the context of artificial intelligence. The event sought to propose feasible and realistic business models and strategies that could benefit industries and policymakers, ultimately contributing to a more vibrant economy and society.

Organized by the Department of Management, NEHU, Tura Campus, in collaboration with the North Eastern Management Association (NEMA), and supported by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) – North Eastern Regional Centre (NERC), Shillong, the conference attracted a host of high-profile delegates. Notable attendees included Tshering Wangdi, President of Sherubtse College, Royal University of Bhutan, who served as the special guest; Prof. R.M. Pant, Vice Chancellor of Assam University, Silchar, as the guest of honor; Prof. P.S. Shukla, Vice Chancellor of NEHU, Shillong; Dr. Sunildro L.S. Akoijam, Convenor of the conference and Secretary of NEMA; Prof. J.U. Ahmed, Campus Director (i/c) of NEHU, Tura Campus, and Director of NEMA; and Prof. Abhigyan Bhattacharjee, Head of the Department of Management, NEHU, Tura Campus.

The conference witnessed participation from deans, professors, and research scholars from various parts of the country, including states such as Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Uttarakhand, alongside representatives from all the North-Eastern states of India. Additionally, international delegates from countries like South Africa, Indonesia, Thailand, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka were also present.

The two-day conference aims to bring together academia, industry, and practitioners to deliberate on multiple perspectives regarding the impact of AI on various sectors.

The inaugural event also featured the release of several books:
– “Holistic Vision and Development” by Prof. J.U. Ahmed and Prof. Parag Shil
– “Competitiveness of Sualkuchi Silk Products in Assam” by Dr. Dimpal Bharali and Dr. Sunildro L.S. Akoijam
– “Service Quality and Customer Satisfaction of Rural Bank” by Dr. Chelsea Ch. Momin and Prof. J.U. Ahmed

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma addressed the gathering through a video message, expressing his hope that the conference would yield valuable insights into the better utilization of AI across various sectors.
