Gorkha Parisangh welcomes State Holiday decision on Bhai Tika

Guwahati, Nov 6: Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh – national social organization of Indian Gorkhas welcomed Government of Assam announcement to declare Gorkha Festival Bhai Tika as State Holiday that falls on 16 November 2020.

Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Senior Cabinet Minister of Government of Assam on Friday declared that the Gorkha Festival Bhai Tika also celebrated as Bhai Dhuj in India will be a State Holiday at a public meeting at Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Udalguri district’s Gorkha majoritarian Mazbat constituency.

Reacting to this statement Nanda Kirati Dewan, president of Bharatiya Gorkha Yuva Parisangh said, “State Holiday on Bhai Tika is one of the demands of Gorkhas of Assam. I am elated to hear from the minister today but would put in record that it should be immediately notified officially by General Administration Department of Government of Assam not just for the year 2020 but for all annual calendar throughout.”

Dewan also thanked BJP Assam Pradesh president Ranjeet Kumar Dass for placing the proposal before the government again today at Mazbat to which the minister made a declaration. He also welcomed Government of Assam’s initiative to recognize the Gorkha community’s festival and facilitate to celebrate for all the people of Assam with State Holiday status.

It is to note that the Government of Assam had declared Bhai Tika holiday is some districts and restricted holiday in the rest last year.
