Shillong, Feb 7: Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Wednesday announced that the government has approved for a minimum 6% salary increase based on seniority for the Meghalaya EMRI workers.
Following a meeting with the Meghalaya EMRI Workers Union, Lyngdoh said the Union had submitted a memorandum that needed immediate correction.
“So the first thing done was they had a negotiation with the MD to talk about increment that hasn’t come their way because the NHM was not expected to carry on their engagement with these workers. Ideal situation, company should have been in position and they should have been able to have all of these terms and conditions laid out before them as indicated in their extension of contracts. They are happy since we’ve agreed on certain terms that they themselves brought before our purview,” mentioned Lyngdoh.
Expressing satisfaction over the announcement, Roypar Kharaswai, President of Meghalaya EMRI Workers Union, stated that all union members have unanimously agreed to the proposed 6% increment based on seniority.
However, Lyngdoh informed that the tender process didn’t go well and the assets and management of 108 are yet to be handed over to a competent authority.
The minister has also decided to take up the matter of rights of workers in the unorganised sector, including how many holidays they have the right to and the terms and conditions of these holidays, which will have to be set as a temporary stopgap solution.
“Happy they are satisfied and look forward in one or two months there should be a fast-tracking of the tender,” mentioned Lyngdoh.
