Shillong, Aug 28: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday said the state government is waiting for a detailed report from the district administration before deciding to open the road at Iew Them Mawlong.
The issue was raised by VPP legislator from North Shillong, Adelbert Nongrum, in the Assembly following the problem of traffic congestion arising out of the closure of the said road after the violent protest in 2018.
In his reply, Tynsong said that the government also shares the concerns expressed by the member because the traffic congestion is so much towards Motphran and even to Iew Mawlong side.
He informed that recently a meeting was held on the matter.
“It is not only the government alone where we can say just open it up but we also need to see the detailed inputs because this road is also linked to law and order problems,” Tynsong said.
“So, we have already instructed the district administration, SPs, where ultimately I think very soon they will give us the detailed inputs as we would like to make sure that the entry of that stretch be opened at the earliest possible,” he added.
