Shillong, Jan 10: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday said the government is examining the proposal for creation of new districts in the state.
Responding to a query on the demand for upgradation of Sohra into a new district, Sangma said that the government has been receiving a lot of such demands from different areas including Sohra and Dadenggre.
“Of course as I said we are for administration getting closer (to the people) but of course there are a large number of challenges that we faced and we have difficulties in terms even in this particular area geographical challenges are there, so we have to look into so many aspects,” he emphasized.
Stating that financial challenges are also there, the chief minister said that it would not be possible for him to give any commitment at this point in time.
“We have got large financial implications. Hence, it is not that we are saying yes or we are saying no to it but these things need to be examined in details and there is a lot of areas, a lot of people have to be brought together, a lot of decisions have to be made so things will be examined but as I said at this point in time for me to say anything or commit will not be possible,” he stated.
Asked if the government would consider creation of new districts before 2028, the CM replied saying “It is too early for me to say right now.”
