SHILLONG, MAY 1: Cabinet Minister Marcuise N Marak on Wednesday said the government has taken stringent actions in regards to the accident cases involving dumper trucks in Tura, West Garo Hills District.
Speaking to reporters, Marak said, “Regarding the dumper truck issue in Tura, there are two-three incidents, which have happened and one young girl has lost her leg which has to be amputated in the hospital. It was so sad. Hearing that, the government has taken review and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has directed the administration in Tura to take action and based on that DC has given an order that trucks carrying more than 9 tons will not be allowed to enter Tura town area. There are police checkpoints in Damalgre area and Dopasipara area and Rongram area – so there they would not be allowed to enter the town except if they so required they have to take permission from DC.”
“Even the truckers below 9 tons if they are in need of entering the town, they have to inform the deputy commissioners there and they can take the permission and go but this order is exempted for government vehicles like buses and government construction workers, those vehicles which are having valid passes, they are allowed to enter but at night time only from 9pm to 6am. These are stringent actions taken after the incident at Tura,” he added.
The minister has also appealed to all residents including parents to ensure that their children have driving licenses and are aware of traffic rules and regulations.
“We are also appealing to students and school administrations there that make sure their children and students are driving with valid driving licenses. Driving licenses will be checked now regularly and then those drivers will also be checked, breath analyser will be there to check them,” he said while adding all these measures will be taken to prevent such incidents from happening in the coming days.
