Shillong, Sep 14: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said that the ongoing peace-talk process is making progress, and the government has officially initiated communication with the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) through a government-appointed interlocutor. The government is now awaiting the Council’s response.
Addressing the media after an event, the Chief Minister emphasised the importance of active participation from all sections involved in such discussions. He mentioned that all stakeholders should exhibit a strong commitment to the entire dialogue process.
However, the Chief Minister revealed that the government has already presented some key points to the outfit. Once we receive their response, the government will proceed with the negotiations.
“As we move forward, there are certain areas of concern, some from their side and some from ours. We are all working towards addressing these concerns. We have conveyed some specific points to them, but we are currently in a wait-and-see mode. We will determine our next steps once we receive their response,” said CM Conrad.
When asked about the charge sheet filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) against the outfit’s leaders, Sangma clarified that this is an old case of the central government and not of the state government, and the state government has duly informed the HNLC about it.
