Shillong, Aug 28: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge PWD (Roads), Prestone Tynsong, on Wednesday informed that the department is initiating a proposal for improvement and strengthening portions of the Nartiang – Jonglwit – Barato, which is in very bad condition.
Replying to a Zero Hour notice brought by UDP legislator from Mookaiaw, Nujorki Sungoh, Tynsong said, “I would like to inform the member that the government is not sitting idle but are working on it, to find out the best solution to the problems faced by the people of Mookaiaw area especially a portion of the road Nartiang – Jonglwit – Barato (portion: 14th – 21st km) which is in very bad condition.”
“The department is initiating a proposal for improvement/strengthening these stretches during the financial year 2024-25,” he said.
Nartiang-Jonglwit-Barato (NJB) road, which has a total length of 35.40km, is the main artery road that passes through a number of villages.
The road starts from Nartiang village and ends at Barato village. All the villages in those areas are well connected from NJB road to their respective villages either through ODR road or village road or PMGSY road.
Tynsong, however, said that the condition of the main NJB road is in good condition, except for 7.00 km, which is in poor condition i.e. the stretch from 14.00 km to 21.00 km (i.e from Takhniang to Shilliang Myntang).
He said the road from Madan Takhniang to Thadbamon covering a length of 3.00 km is motorable but not in good condition. However, the department will be taking up repair works along the stretch of this road after the monsoon ends.
The road for a total length of 9.20km that is linked to Thadialong – Thadbamon – Musiaw – Latymphu villages has been taken up under PMGSY schemes and the same have been completed and are in good condition.
It may also be mentioned that other portions of the road have been taken up, such as stretches from Raliang to Sahsniang of length 21.00 kms under PMGSY III-batch I and work is still in progress.
Also, Laskein to Barato road of length 16.20 kms has been taken up under PMGSY III-Batch I and work is in progress. The Pasyih-Garampani road stretching from 21.00 kms to 48.00 kms is in good condition, he added.
