Agartala, July 27: After five months of pause in talks for ‘Greater Tipraland’, the second official meeting on the crucial issue took place between Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) officials and Tripura’s main opposition party, TIPRA Motha, led by Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, regarding their core demand for ‘Greater Tipraland’—a separate state for the Tiprasa people, in New Delhi on Thursday.
These talks have come as a great relief for Pradyot Kishore, who faced significant criticism from both external sources and his own party supporters and leaders due to the delay by the MHA in declaring the interlocutor’s name.
The declaration was initially supposed to happen five months ago but is still pending.
5 Months of trolling, abuse, insults end today as we "officially " meet the HM officials along with other organisations today . I pray that the almighty give some enlightenment to those who made fun of me in the last few months . Those who called me a liar stand exposed and my…

During the meeting, a delegation from TIPRA Motha, led by Deb Barma and in the presence of Opposition Leader Animesh Debbarma, TTAADC CEM Purna Chandra Jamatia, party president B K Hrangkhawl, Jagadish Debbarma, along with other MLAs, EMs, and community leaders, met with two Ministry of Home Affairs officials.
One of the MHA officials, A K Mishra, is repeatedly mentioned in the media as the potential interlocutor but has yet to be officially declared as such was seen in pictures of the meeting along with the Motha delegation.
After the meeting, Deb Barma took to social media and wrote, “The meeting was held in a positive manner, and the MHA officials patiently listened to our demands. We have made it clear that our demand is well within the constitutional framework of India and is essential for the survival and well-being of the Tiprasa community. We have not compromised on the future of the Tiprasa people, and I am glad that the IPFT has also raised the common demand of Tipraland. If we remain united, we can achieve something. Further discussions will be held at a later date.”
It has been reported that Shukla Charan Noatia, the lone IPFT MLA and a minister in Dr. Manik Saha’s cabinet, also had a separate meeting with the MHA officials in Delhi.
Furthermore, TIPRA Motha recently accused the Tripura BJP of attempting to break the TTAADC, where it holds power, by allegedly offering money to some of its elected representatives.
In response to the delay in fulfilling promises, including the declaration of the interlocutor’s name, TIPRA Motha reshuffled its leadership during its first plenary just two weeks ago and declared its intention to launch a massive agitation and road blockade to exert pressure on the central government.
Notably, Dr. Saha, only a day ago in a statement to a news agency, mentioned that the BJP in Tripura is gaining ground in the tribal belt, which was previously under the tight control of the tribal outfit TIPRA Motha, but is now facing internal challenges of its own.
It may be added here that BJP had repeatedly said that it is in favour of tribal development but not ready to accept Greater Tipraland.
