Agartala, May 20: Acting on specific intelligence about the movement of infiltrators by train, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) conducted a coordinated operation at Agartala station on Sunday.
Police officials deployed in plainclothes led the operation and arrested three Bangladeshi citizens, said Tapas Das, officer-in-charge of the GRP station at Agartala rail station. Das stated that all three detainees are women who intended to travel to Ahmedabad in Gujarat. Initially claiming to be Indian citizens, they failed to provide valid documents and eventually confessed to being Bangladeshi nationals during interrogation.
The trio had entered Indian territory without passports or any valid documents, resulting in a specific case being registered against them under the IPC, Passport Act, and Foreigner’s Act. All three women will be produced in a local court today.
This month alone, over 15 infiltrators and several touts facilitating their illegal crossing and transportation have been arrested by railway police at Agartala rail station. The increasing use of Tripura as a transit route by Bangladeshis and Rohingyas is a significant concern, raising questions about the security and monitoring of Tripura’s 856 km international border with Bangladesh.
