Tura, March 31: A delegation of the Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Eastern Zone, led by its General Secretary, Alex D. Shira, visited the site of the now demolished cenotaph in Lower Babupara in Tura.
The monument, which bore the names of brave warriors who fought in World War I, was of great historical and sentimental significance.
During the inspection, the GSU delegation urged municipal authorities to handle the remnants with care and ensure they are preserved with due respect. The union expressed concerns that leaving the remains unattended could undermine the legacy of the warriors and diminish the importance of their sacrifice.

Emphasizing the need for proper preservation, GSU Eastern Zone called on the authorities to take immediate steps to protect and maintain the memorial. The union reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the history and heritage of the Garo people, stressing that honouring the past is essential for future generations.
