GSU objects use of timber for RCC bridge

Must read

Baghmara, Oct 27: The Garo Student’s Union (GSU) Karukol Unit in South Garo Hills (SHG) along with Nokmas and residents of the area have expressed their anger and resentment after the contractor of a PMGSY road reused abutments meant for a timber bridge while it is being converted into an RCC.

The road in question is the upcoming PMGSY road between Karukol to Tolegre in South Garo Hills.

In a complaint submitted today to the executive engineer of PWD, SGH, GSU expressed surprise and anger after discovering that abutments that were already there for a timber bridge that ran through the road, were once again being used to construct an RCC bridge

“As per our knowledge the foundation using the same abutments of the earlier timber bridge is not sufficient and dangerous. The abutments per se may not be in the original estimates but are still being constructed by the contractor. As a community, we are worried and seek an investigation into the matter,” said Matsram Marak, president of GSU Karukol Unit.

GSU has sought PWD department intervention to re-estimate all such RCC bridges on the same road
