Shillong, Jan 17: Gujarat University (GU) and North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Meghalaya, celebrated a landmark collaboration on National Startup Day ( Jan 16) embodying the spirit of unity between East and West India.
Held at GU’s Maharshi Sushrut Auditorium in Ahmedabad, the event highlighted the transformative power of academia, innovation, and culture in bridging diverse regions.
Themed “Sustainable Innovations in Natural Farming and Agribusiness: Bridging Cultures and Practices,” the workshop was spearheaded by NEHU’s BioNEST BioIncubator (B3I) Facility in partnership with the Indian Institute of Sustainability Meghalaya (IISM) and Gujarat University. Drawing over 200 participants, including students, faculty, and entrepreneurs, the event underscored the critical role of collaboration in advancing sustainable practices and agribusiness.
Dr. Neerja Gupta, Vice-Chancellor of Gujarat University, emphasized the importance of uniting diverse regions for mutual growth and national integration. She hailed the collaboration as a milestone in fostering knowledge-sharing and entrepreneurship across cultural divides.
Dr. B. K. Mishra (NEHU BioNEST) highlighted NEHU’s entrepreneurial llegay while Prof. C. N. Pandey (IIT Gandhinagar) addressed global agricultural challenges through sustainable natural farming.
Dr. Subrota Hati of Kamdhenu University) presented breakthroughs in bioactive peptides while Kalpesh Parikh (GLPC) explored Agritech industry opportunities.
Prof. Ranjan Ghosh (IIM Ahmedabad) delved into enhancing agricultural value chains while R. C. Upadhyay (IIS, Gujarat University) showcased the potential of local mushroom varieties in uplifting rural livelihoods.
Traditional dances, music, and poetry performed by students from both universities showcased India’s diversity and fostered mutual respect and camaraderie.
The NEHU delegation’s visit extended beyond the workshop, including explorations of Gujarat Biotechnology University, Gujarat Vidyapeeth, and IIT Gandhinagar. A significant milestone was the signing of an MoU between IISM and Dr. Skill, focusing on capacity building and skill enhancement, aligning with the vision of Bharat@2047.
Mr. Sudhanshu Jangir, Director of IIS at Gujarat University, described the collaboration as a cornerstone for a sustainable future, blending academia and entrepreneurship to tackle critical challenges. Prof. Deepak Bhagat from NEHU expressed heartfelt gratitude for GU’s impeccable organization and hospitality.
