Guwahati policeman rescues local who tried to jump in Brahmaputra

Guwahati, April 29: Showing great sincerity and dedication towards his duty, a Guwahati policeman rescued an individual who tried to jump in the Brahmaputra River from the Saraighat flyover in Guwahati.

“On April 28 at around 3:20 pm one person aged 26 years attempted suicide by jumping from the Saraighat bridge into the Brahmaputra River. On receipt of the information, a police team from Jalukbari outpost immediately rushed to the spot and took steps to save the person. UBC/1167 Lankeswar Kalita of Jalukbari outpost showed exemplary courage and dedication to his duty and rescued the person without fearing for his own life,” said a police official.

He further said, “For the exemplary courage and dedication to duty shown by the police personnel, UBC/1167 Lankeswar Kalita of Jalukbari outpost is awarded a money reward of Rs. 10,000/- (Ten Thousand) only.”
