Guwahati, Mar 20: According to the ‘World Air Quality Report 2023,’ Guwahati has been ranked as the second most polluted city in the globe.
A recent report by the Swiss air quality monitoring body, IQAir, has raised some serious concerns about air pollution levels in cities all across the world
It can be mentioned that, the report highlights a significant increase in air pollution levels across several Indian cities. Begusarai, a city of Bihar, was listed as the world’s most polluted city, followed by Guwahati.
It is alarming to note that, Guwahati saw its PM2.5 concentration double from 51 to 105.4 micrograms per cubic meter between 2022 and 2023.
The report also notes India’s overall standing, ranking it as the third most polluted country in 2023, after neighbouring Bangladesh and Pakistan. This marks a concerning escalation compared to previous years. Data for the report was collected from over 30,000 air quality monitoring stations worldwide.
