Guwahati, May 25: Amid the scorching heat in Kamrup (Metro), the District Elementary Education Officer (DEEO) has ordered the rescheduling of school timings for both government and private schools to ensure the safety and well-being of the students. The new timing will be effective from Monday, May 27, 2024.
The new school timings are as follows:
Lower Primary (L.P.) Schools: 7:30 A.M. to 12:00 Noon
Middle English (M.E.) Schools: 7:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M.
High School (H.S.) and Higher Secondary Schools (HSS): 7:30 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.
In addition to the revised timings, the DEEO also instructed schools to conduct morning assemblies inside the classroom or shaded area, keep electric fans in running condition, and repair/replace defective ones.
The order also advises students to avoid blazers, waistcoats, and ties and wear sandals if they feel uncomfortable in shoes. It also asked school authorities to inform parents immediately if students feel uneasy and contact hospitals for medical assistance.
Meanwhile, the IMD regional office informed that the temperature in Kamrup (Metro) is 7-8 degrees above normal. Guwahati recorded a maximum temperature of 39.4 degrees on May 24, which was 7.4 degrees above the normal. Official data for today is yet to be released.
