Guwahati, March 24: Indian football legend Sunil Chhetri is all set to place his name in the annals of football history as he prepares to step in the field for his 150th international match when India takes on Afghanistan in the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup 2027 Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 2 clash in Guwahati on March 26.
Chhetri, who began his career on June 12, 2005, has become synonymous with excellence in Indian football, boasting a remarkable record of 93 goals in 149 matches, which also positions him as the fourth overall and third active top scorer globally.
It is worth mentioning, Chhetri continues to defy age, spearheading India’s football team. His consistency is underscored by the unique feat of scoring in his first, 25th, 50th, 75th, 100th, and 125th appearances for the Indian Football Team.
The All India Football Federation is also set to honor Chhetri in Guwahati for his remarkable achievements and for being a motivating force for millions in the Indian football fraternity.
