Shillong, August 22: To make running as an integral part of life and promote tourism, the Real Sports of India also known as Sportive Run Safari from Kolkata is organising a marathon run in the cleanest village in Asia, Mawlynnong, on the 17th of September 2022 which will begin and conclude at the car parking lot of Mawlynnong village.
Uttam Dhar, Sport Tourism Entrepreneur from Kolkata, on Monday informed that this program aims to promote Indo-Bangladesh Border Tourism prospect of Mawlynnong and its surrounding through Marathon under Marathon Tourism to instigate “Dekho Apna Desh- Incredible Meghalaya” along with other social awareness campaign such as: Fit India Movement for Healthy Meghalaya & Healthy India; Beti Bachao Beti Padhao to empower women; Clean & Green Meghalaya for better tourism.
The event will be covered in three categories: 21.1 km, 10 km and 5 km, and senior citizens as well.
He said many sports and fitness enthusiasts from every corner of the state have shown interest to join in this initiative taken by Sportive Run Safari.
The event is also supported by the DC East Khasi Hills District, SDO (Civil) Pynursla, Dorbar Shnong Mawlynnong of Mawlynnong Village, and Shillong Press Club.
“We welcome all runners to Maiden Half Marathon at Mawlynnong, Meghalaya. Mawlynnong is the cleanest village in Asia and placed at the junction of the India & Bangladesh Border this will enhance the beauty of the Indo-Bangladesh and majestic view of Bangladesh from the View Point at Mawlynnong,” stated Uttam.
Furthermore, he added, “Marathon is also a sport which can be used as an instrument which can promote culture as well as anti drugs for the youths.”
