Tura, June 4: “It was God’s guidance that helped me to succeed,” so says Congress victorious candidate Saleng Sangma.

Speaking to the media after being declared victorious from Tura, Saleng said the party workers momentum and the guidance of Almighty God helped steer the Congress to victory.

The new MP from Tura said that Garo Hills is in dire need of a course correction particularly on the education front where higher secondary results have been dismal, the contentious border dispute with Assam and the burning problem of unemployment amongst the youth which is fuelling unrest among the youth.

“This is nothing short of a miracle for us and all I can say is that the Will of God was on our side,” said the new victorious MP.

“People have been wanting a change and today their voice has been heard. I will not disappoint them,” said Saleng Sangma.

Saleng’s victory has ended the reign of the P A Sangma family over Tura Lok Sabha seat after a record 45 long years. No other candidate has ever defeated a sitting member of the family, until today.
