Jowai, Aug 10: The Headmen from Jowai Town under the Synjuk Ki Waheh Chnong Jowai on Tuesday issued a Quit Notice to all the residents of the villages who are opposing the dumping of garbage at Mynkjai. The Synjuk has also decided to boycott all activities of the District Administration and also to boycott the Independence Day Celebrations.
Earlier in the day the Village Headmen organised a rally to voice their protest against the District Administration and the Jowai Municipal Board’s failure to collect garbage piling up in Iawmusiang area and other market areas of Jowai and also from the household of various localities in the town.
After the rally the Synjuk held a meeting at Iawmusiang Jowai to discuss their further actions especially with regard to the garbage issue which has been pending in Jowai town for months now.
The Synjuk informed that they have decided to boycott all engagements with the government and the District Administration due to its failed promises and that it would also boycott this years Independence Day Celebrations.
It was also decided to issue a Quit Notice to villagers from these opposing Villages, including the Khasi Students Union and the Synjuk Waheh Chnong War Jaiñtia not to come to Jowai because Jowai being the HQ of the District everyone comes here for selling their produces and as a result everyone contributes to the garbage problem in Jowai and their opposition to continue with the dumping of garbage at Mynkjai, which has been practiced for decades now, cannot be stopped immediately.
The Synjuk also informed that that the failure to come and clean the garbage within a weeks time, it will be forced to organise a public rally of the residents of Jowai Town on the 17 of the month.
At the same time it questioned the inability of the District Administration in enforcing the Section 144 CrPC which was promulgated in an around the landfill which led to the protest by these villagers along with the KSU.
