Heavy rain, thunder with lightning and gusty wind predicted for North East States within 48 hrs

Guwahati, June 8: Are you tired of extreme heat in some parts of North-East India and less rain or no rain in some states? Well, there is a good news for the people of North East with the arrival of monsoon in Kerala on Thursday, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Guwahati, said that heavy rainfall is predicted for most parts of northeast India, including Assam, within the next 48 hours.

The rain will bring respite to the people in the region who are facing the high temperature and humidity.

Very heavy rains may lash parts of Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura on June 9 and Assam & Meghalaya on June 12.

According to the Meteorological department, it is predicted that heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds are expected over the northeast region over the next five days.

This change in weather will belt due to the strong low-level southerly and south-westerly winds bringing increased moisture from the Bay of Bengal to Northeast India.

In its official tweet, RWFC Gauwhathi further said that “The moisture incursion due to strong low-level southerly/south-westerly winds from the Bay of Bengal to Northeast India is very likely during the next 5 days. Under its influence fairly widespread rainfall activity with heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds is very likely to occur over the northeast region during the next five days.”

Meanwhile, RMC, Guwahati said, “Conditions are favourable for advance of Southwest monsoon in some parts of North-Eastern states of India during next 48 hrs,” RMC on Thursday.

A warning was also issued by the RMC that said that the region might experience heavy to very heavy rainfall with lighting and gusty wind.
