Shillong, June 24: A huge tree fell on the Shillong – Umiam road on Monday afternoon due to heavy downpour, bringing the traffic on the busy road to a griding halt.
The tree fell in between the road from Umiam Lake View Point and the Umiam lake.
One tourist taxi was also damaged in the incident as the tree fell on it. However, its occupants made a narrow escape with minor injures as the tree fell on the front portion of the vehicle, damaging its bonnet and part of the driver side.
Reportedly, few more people were injured, especially two-wheel riders, as they had difficult coming to a sudden halt in the rain-soaked road.
However, no major injury was reported to anyone.
Till the filing of this report, the road had been cleared and normal traffic resumed.
