Agartala, Aug 12: In an effort to bolster security measures ahead of Independence Day, heightened vigilance has resulted in the capture of eight foreign nationals by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Agartala railway station in the capital of Tripura.
The apprehended individuals consist of five Bangladeshi nationals and three Rohingyas from Myanmar, according to Inspector Sanjit Sen, the officer in-charge of the Government Railway Police (GRP) station. The group was intercepted as they attempted to board the Hamsafar Express bound for Kolkata and Bengaluru.
Prompted by suspicion, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) conducted an interrogation near the station’s main gate, during which the individuals confessed to illegally crossing into Indian territory from Bangladesh without proper documentation. Subsequently, they were placed under arrest.
The detainees, identified as Abdul Jalil, Billal Hussain, Abdul Quader, Md Kasar, Md Russel, Md Hussain, Rafika Begam, and Jahida Begam, were found in possession of five mobile phones, currency notes from both India and Bangladesh, and rail tickets at the time of their arrest.
Following initial questioning, the individuals were handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP), where an ongoing investigation is taking place. They have been charged under the Passport Act and are scheduled to appear in court.
