Shillong, March 3: With the cabinet meeting scheduled to held on Thursday, disagree with cabinet decision, BJP leader and cabinet minister, Alexander Laloo Hek has asked the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government to review its decision to reimburse 95 percent of the total income tax payable by the All India Service (AIS) officers serving in the state.

Further, the cabinet minister also informed that along with the National People’s Party (NPP) state president and Rajya Sabha MP, Dr. WR Kharlukhi are also on the same page in this regard.

“We have discussed and decided to soon meet the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma for requesting him on the need to review the decision taken by the state Cabinet recently,” he said.

On February 26, the state Cabinet has approved the introduction of a special incentive package to reimburse 95 percent of the total income tax payable by all India service officers serving in the state.

Asked, Hek said that he was not in the station when the decision was taken by the state Cabinet.

“I only came to know about it from media reports and I feel that the government should reconsider its decision as this will not end with only bureaucrats working in the Secretariat,” he said.

“We cannot take the decision in a hasty manner as there are also many employees of the central government serving in Meghalaya like ICAR, AG. How can it be partially given to only one section of the society?” Hek said.

According to him, many such employees will come forward to claim the benefit of the special package.
