Tehran, May 20: The Bell 212 helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his foreign minister Abdullahiyan crashed on Sunday, and all on board are feared dead, reports Reuters, citing an Iranian official.
“President Raisi’s helicopter was completely burned in the crash … unfortunately, all passengers are feared dead,” the official told Reuters.
Iranian state television reported there was “no sign of life” at the crash site of the helicopter that carried Raisi, Amirabdollahian, and others.
Earlier, Iranian state media reported that the helicopter crashed when it flew through mountains in heavy fog. Rescue teams fought blizzards and difficult terrain through the night to reach the wreckage in East Azerbaijan province in the early hours of Monday.
