Shillong, Sept 5: International-level technology will be used to protect the natural turf during the state’s biggest musical concert December 10, where legendary rock singer Bryan Adams will perform.
This information was shared by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma in response to concerns raised by citizens about the potential impact on the newly installed turf, which has been praised for its premium quality, as seen during the recent Durand Cup.
CM Sangma assured that special technology, used globally in football and cricket stadiums, will be employed to safeguard the natural turf during large gatherings, events, or concerts.
“Technologies available today allow the entire natural turf to be covered by a protective platform, ensuring that people don’t step directly on the grass and damage it,” said the Chief Minister.
He also said that the government will ensure the concert organizers comply with the required technology to prevent damage to the turf. “The responsibility will be on the organizers to implement this platform, and we will double-check the technology to ensure it meets our standards before giving approval,” he said.
However, the CM noted that in the event of minor damage, the grass could be restored within seven days, as is common in similar situations worldwide.
He also explained the reasoning behind hosting such events at the venue, stating, “The investments made in this infrastructure should be utilized for multiple purposes to raise revenue and maximize the utility of the space.”
