Guwahati, May 3: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday came down heavily on AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal regarding his comment on establishment of government madrasas in the state.
Sarma’s statement comes in response to Ajmal’s comment during an election rally to open government madrasas in Assam.
The AIUDF supremo on April 24, stated that the elected leaders of his party would undertake the construction of 700 madrasas to offset the closure of approximately 750 madrasas in Assam.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been critical against the AIUDF chief for making such statement. He said, “even if Ajmal takes birth for the fourth time, government madrassas a distant dream for him’.
Sarma’s administration has further pursued the closure of approximately 1,000 private madrasas, engaging in discussion with Muslim organisations to facilitate this transition.
According to political analyst, Badruddin Ajmal has given the statement to appease the muslim voters diring the elections.
“A war of words is common thing in every elections and the political parties do such controversial statement to attract the voters,” he said.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has already directed the political parties to refrain from controversial statement during the campaigning rally.
