Must read

Shillong, Mar 15: The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) Mylliem area on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police (SP) in-charge of traffic Shailendra Bamaniya against the untimely plying of overloaded trucks through Upper Shillong – Umshyrpi road.

Speaking to the press after meeting the SP (Traffic), president of HITO Mylliem, Bornfield Marbaniang, said the meeting was not fruitful as the SP could not give any assurance as the matter is of the transport department.

Marbaniang said there are many overloaded trucks who continue to ply through Upper Shillong to Umshyrpi towards Guwahati despite the restrictions on the overloaded trucks being notified by the authority concerned.

Movement of the overloaded trucks causes a huge traffic jam during school hours which in turn creates a great disturbance to the students and public at large, Marbaniang said while pointing that this mostly happens along the Upper Shillong – Umshyrpi Bridge stretch which has several sharp curves which leads to many incidents time and again.

Marbaniang also said that in these last few weeks he had witnessed breakdown of trucks twice or thrice due to the failure of the traffic branch and the authority concerned to curb all these discrepancies.

He added such discrepancies is because of the failure of the concerned department, hence, they have demanded from the SP (Traffic) to look into the matter to free all traffic jams and unwanted incidents.

Marbaniang also stated that they will seek appointments with transport department pertaining to this matter.
