Shillong, Oct 20: The Hynniewtrep National Youth Movement (HNYM) on Thursday organised a rally demanding the state government to come up with policies for employment creation in the private sector in the state.

The members of the HNYM marched from Civil Point towards Main Secretariat, Additional Secretariat back to the starting point.

HNYM president Louis Dohtdong said that the movement has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Conard K Sangma in July demanding 80% reservation in the private firms/companies and to create a policy for employment creation in the private sector. The movement had expected that the issue would be debated in the recently concluded Autumn Session of the Meghalaya Assembly but it did not happen.

“Meghalaya celebrated its 50th years of statehood but in these 50 years the state government could not come up with a policy that would create employment for people in the private sectors of the state. This shows that the government does not think about the future of its youth,” Dohtdong remarked.

Dohtdong further said that due to the rise of unemployment, the youth are indulging in substance abuses.

The HNYM informed that the state government has 45 days of time to come up with a policy so that the youths of the state are meaningfully engaged.
