SHILLONG, Nov 1: The Hynniewtrep National Youth Movement (HNYM) on Tuesday announced stage sit-in demonstration from November 4 in front of the main Secretariat against the failure of the state government to come up with a policy for implementation of 80% reservation of employment for local youths in private sector in the state.

Speaking to media persons, HNYM president Louis Dohtdong informed that on October 20, 2022, they had submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma demanding from the government to come up with a policy for implementing 80% job reservation for local youths in private sectors across the state but till date the government continues to ignore it.

“Since the state government and the chief minister in particular continue to pay deaf ears to our demands, we have decided to begin our sit-in demonstration from 4 November in front of the Secretariat until the government listens to our demands, ” he said.

Dohtdong said they will continue with their agitation in front of the Secretariat even on November 7 as Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to be in Shillong, to let him know about the failure of the state government to fulfil the demands pertaining to the welfare of the people especially the youths of the state.

He added that the HNYM will not pay heed to the order of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of East Khasi Hills who has imposed Section 144 of CrPC and they will continue to go against the order as they are protesting for the rights of the youths.

“When the government and those in power do not care about the rights and welfare of its people, especially the unemployed youths of the state, we also will not pay heed to the government order,” asserted Dohtdong.
