Shillong, July 31: The Meghalaya government on Wednesday announced that all schools that fall under the Shillong Municipal Area shall remain closed on August 2 due to the opening ceremony of the 133rd Durand Cup 2024, which is expected to draw huge crowd and lead of traffic congestion in the city.
A notification by the Director of School Education and Literacy stated that, “The Opening Ceremony of the Durand Cup 2024 to be held on the 2nd of August, 2024 at J.N.S Complex, Polo Ground, Shillong and in anticipation of extremely heavy traffic congestions, all the Schools that fall under Shillong Municipal Area shall remain closed.”
The notification said the closure of schools is to avoid hardships to the students.
In the opening match, home side Shillong Lajong will take on Nepal’s Tribhuvan Army FC at 4:00 PM in the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Shillong.
