How relief teams overcame natural disasters to help isolated villages in Arunachal Pradesh

Must read

Itanagar, July 14: Nestled on the Indo-China border, Kurung Kumey district of Arunachal Pradesh was reeling from the aftermath of relentless rains that had triggered landslides and mudslides, leaving the area in ruins.

Essential supplies were scarce, and the villagers were struggling to survive.

Restoring normalcy was no easy task, but Vishaka Yadav, a young and dynamic IAS officer, was determined to reach every last villager with relief materials. With the support of the Border Roads Organization (BRO) and the Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) members, she led the charge to bring aid to the most affected areas.

Sarli and Polosang circles were particularly hard-hit by the natural disaster. John Diru, the Circle Officer, along with Bomken Bassar, the district’s Superintendent of Police, spearheaded the efforts to bring aid to the 2400 villagers stranded in these isolated parts.

The journey to deliver rations, medicines, and other essentials was nothing short of herculean.

The vital 45-kilometer Koloriang-Polosang BRO Road had been severely damaged by heavy rains and flash floods. Two bridges and four concrete culverts had been completely washed away, turning the road into a treacherous path of debris and danger.

Despite these obstacles, the team’s determination remained unwavering, exemplified by the tireless efforts of John Diru and Bomken Bassar. They carried loads of rice on their backs as they trudged through the devastated terrain, facing risks and challenges at every turn.

After two grueling days, the team finally reached their destination. The sight of the relief team brought immense joy to the villagers, who had been waiting with bated breath for help to arrive. The cheers of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” echoed through the mountains, a testament to their gratitude and patriotism.
