Guwahati, May 9: A man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his wife and burying her body inside their rented room in the Dekapada area under Azara Police Station in the city. Police today apprehended the accused, Gautam Roy, from the Sonapur area on the outskirts of the city.
The gruesome crime came to light on May 7, coinciding with the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections. The couple, belonging to the tribal community, had been staying in a rented house in Dekapada and were reported missing by the house owner.
Upon investigation, the police discovered the woman’s buried body inside the room, although her husband was nowhere to be found. Azara police launched a manhunt and eventually arrested the accused from Sonapur.
The deceased woman and the husband were originally from the Baksa district and had been living in the rented accommodation for about a year, working as daily wage laborers.
The motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained, and the investigation is ongoing.
