Shillong, July 21: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has demanded the government to make West Khasi Hills District the ‘Autumn’ Capital of the State of Meghalaya.
Wantei Lyngdoh, the HYC General Secretary, said their demand is logical as the district has attained 46 years and is one of the biggest districts in the State. The HYC also stated that the district has produced prominent leaders at the forefront of the Hill State Movement.
Stressing the importance of Autumn Capital, the HYC said that it will help development reach every pocket of the State.
If friends from Garo Hills are demanding the Winter Capital at Tura, West Khasi Hills also deserves to be the Spring Capital, added the HYC.
Demand for Winter Capital in Tura is not new and has been a long-standing aspiration of the people from Garo Hills. The HYC believes that having a Winter Capital in Tura would not only promote balanced development but also provide better governance and accessibility for the people in the region.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said on Thursday that he will soon meet the members of the A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK), who are currently carrying out an indefinite hunger strike protest to demand a winter capital and retrospective implementation of the roster system in Tura.
While speaking to reporters after the cabinet meeting, the Meghalaya CM said that he is following up on a daily basis and is in touch with the Deputy Commissioner.
