IAF and Uttarakhand War Memorial car rally reaches Bagdogra, heads to Guwahati next

Bagdogra, Oct 21: The historic Indian Air Force (IAF) and Uttarakhand War Memorial (UWM) car rally, covering an impressive 7,000 km, arrived at Bagdogra Air Force Station on October 20, where it was met with a warm reception from Air Warriors and enthusiastic children.

This rally, which symbolizes the valour and legacy of the Indian armed forces, was ceremonially flagged off by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on October 1, 2024 at the National War Memorial in New Delhi.

The rally officially commenced on October 8 from the Air Base in Thoise and is set to conclude on October 29 at Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh.

After its stop in Bagdogra, the rally will head to Guwahati, the Gateway to the Northeast, on October 22, via Hasimara, with plans to arrive in Guwahati on October 23 before continuing its final leg toward Tawang.

The convoy consists of 14 Maruti Jimny 4×4 vehicles, driven by senior Air Warriors, Army officers, and Air veterans.

The rally was flagged off from Darbhanga on Sunday morning by Group Captain Raveesh Rakesh, Station Commander Darbhanga, and was given a grand welcome at Bagdogra by Air Commodore Manish V Patel VM, Air Officer Commanding, Air Force Station Bagdogra, and other personnel on Sunday evening.

Wing Commander Vijay Prakash Bhatt, from the Directorate of Adventure at Air Headquarters, is leading the rally. The team also includes senior Air Force and Army officers, as well as Air veterans, who are fueling the spirit of “Vayu Veer Vijetha” through this cross-country journey. The rally aims to inspire the youth through interactions at various locations along the route.

In conjunction with the nation’s celebration of the “25th year of Kargil Vijay Diwas,” the rally members are committed to visiting war memorials along the way to pay tribute to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives in service to the country.
