ICAR provides essential items to Meghalaya’s farmers to tackle Covid pandemic

Shillong, June 29: In an effort to help the poor farmers of Meghalaya to fight the Covid-19 pandemic, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region (ICAR RC NEH), Umiam on Monday distributed essential items to the farmers under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP).

Speaking on the occasion, ICAR RC NEH Director, V K Mishra said, “The outbreak of Coronavirus disease (COVID) has affected the poor farmers of Meghalaya in unprecedented ways. In this regard, poor farmers need to be supplemented with need based agricultural inputs and essential items in order to fight the pandemic situations.”

Agricultural and need based inputs were handed over to the BDO, Bhoirymbong, CJK Warjri for distribution to the farmers.

The effort of nodal officer of TSP, Samrendra Hazarika in formulation of this programme was also highly appreciated by the recipients.

Umroi legislator, George Bakyntiewlang Lyngdoh stressed on various ways in order to support the poor farmers and pointed out that agricultural inputs can boost the agricultural production and productivity in this pandemic situation.

Block Development Officer (BDO), Bhoirymbong, CJK Warjri emphasised on cumulative efforts in order to overcome the situation and said that the input distribution programme will benefit the needy farmers.
