Tura, Sept 30: In a joint effort, the Department of Tourism, West Garo Hills, joined hands with the ICFAI University, Tura, to organize a cleaning drive at Chibagre and Aloe Vera picnic spots on Saturday as part of observing the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan week.
ICFAI Assistant Professors Bryan Boon R Marak and Ellerie N. Arengh along with Tourist Officer Ava Shereen O. Sangma in-charge of West and South West Garo Hills, Village Committee Members of Aloe Vera, Chibagre Eco tourism society, and the Nokma and the students of ICFAI came together to carry out the cleaning drive.
During the event, a pledge to uphold a clean, healthy, safe, and friendly environment was taken by the village committee members and the students, emphasizing the importance of responsible citizenship in building a clean and hygienic India. They vowed to take every necessary step to spread awareness and maintain a clean environment in the region.
“Devoting two hours a week and 100 hours in a year is not tough. These pledges should be followed by each and every individual religiously to keep our homes, surroundings, and workplaces clean,” stressed Ava Shereen Sangma, Tourist Officer for West and South West Garo Hills.

One of the key takeaways from the program was the exchange of knowledge between the students and the local village community. As part of the PMEGP convergence of the Tourism and Industry Department’s homestay initiative, the students also had the opportunity to visit several homestays within the vicinity.
