Tura, Aug 12: ICFAI University Meghalaya’s (IUM) Tura campus on Monday organized an awareness programme on anti-ragging at its campus.
The theme of the programme was – “Together, we can create a culture of safety and respect. Say No to ragging”. The awareness programme was organized to educate students about the evils of ragging and also to spread positive vibes in the college premises.
The University also organized a poster making competition on “anti-ragging” and posters were evaluated based on the creativity and the message they provided.
In the programme the focus was on educating students about the harmful effect of ragging. The programme also highlighted the associated psychological and emotional impact on the victims of ragging, and the stringent legal repercussions for perpetrators.
It also underscored the role of the anti-ragging committee and anti-ragging squad in ensuring a secure and conducive academic environment.
The initiative, jointly undertaken by the anti-ragging committee and the NSS Unit, aimed to create a robust anti-ragging ethos within the campus.
The program commenced with a welcome address by Tengchak K. Sangma, Assistant Professor, Economics. VSB Sangma, Advisor and Head of Campus, delivered a keynote address emphasizing the gravity of ragging as a social crime. She elucidated the Supreme Court’s anti-ragging directives of 2011 and the subsequent legislative framework.
Others stressed on eradicating ragging from educational institutions, advocating a safe and inclusive campus culture. To reinforce the message, a documentary on anti-ragging was produced by Arkanza SA Sangma, Assistant Professor Department of Commerce, which was screened.
