Shillong, July 14: The quiet little town of Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills District was jolted by the sound of a blast at the wee hours of Wednesday morning.
Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills, Jagpal Singh informed that an IED explosion took place at the police reserve building at Khliehriat at around 1.30 AM on Wednesday morning.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident even though one person was living in the quarters which was attacked.
However, the boundary wall of the police reserve was damaged.
“We requisition Bomb Disposal Squad, Crime Scene Unit and other necessary units from the Police Headquarters Shillong. We will keep updating as and when we get further updates,” Singh said.
The motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained and so far no organisation has come forward to take responsibility.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said an investigation is underway.
