Tura, Jan 1: Displaying its strong vigil against smuggling of drugs during this festive season, a joint team of South West Garo Hills police and the border sentinels BSF struck at the core of an illegal narcotic production by seizing and destroying a hemp plantation which was getting prepared to be harvested in the Zikzak area of the district on December 31st morning.
The BSF had received information about the illegal plantation and with the police conducted the raid between 11 AM and 1 PM in the afternoon at Bhoiragopi village under Zikzak police station.
Teams of Zikzak police station and 28 battalion BSF during the raid found inside Bhoiragopi village the hemp plantation under cultivation in approximately 2 bighas of land.
The plantation was destroyed and the narcotic herb was burnt down to prevent anyone from taking it away for sale.
According to the BSF, the plants had reached its full maturity and was ready to be plucked packaged and sold when the operation was launched.
