Guwahati, July 4: Despite some improvement in the flood situation in Assam, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the return of severe downpours to the northeastern states this week.
According to reports, a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal may also bring heavy rain in northeastern states.
The combined effect of the weather systems will result in light to moderate showers drenching most of Northeast India over the next five days, that is, till Friday (July 7).
Some more intense weather is also in the books for many parts. Heavy to very heavy falls (64.5 mm – 224.5 mm) will lash isolated parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura over the next five days, IMD forecasts.
With disaster anxieties continuing to rise, IMD has placed many Northeast states on varying warnings for this week.
Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh have been designated an orange alert (meaning be prepared against the hazardous weather) till July 4. The remaining states will continue on a yellow watch (meaning be updated) till Friday, including Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal from Wednesday onwards.
