Tura, Sept 12: The Achik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) on Thursday demanded the “immediate cancellation of non-local appointments” at the Tura Civil hospital and termed the appointments as violation of the state job reservation policy.
In a memorandum to the Director Health and family Welfare, ACHIK said the department must immediately cancel the appointment of non-locals lab technicians and must adhere to the Meghalaya job reservation policy.
“It has come to our notice that several of these posts have been filled by non-locals, in direct violation of the Meghalaya state job reservation policy. The policy is designed to ensure fair and equitable employment opportunities for the indigenous people of our state,” the organisation pointed out.
ACHIK said this reservation policy is the “cornerstone in safeguarding the rights and interests of local communities, particularly in regions like Garo Hills where economic opportunities are limited”.
The organisation said the recent appointments at Tura Civil hospital “not only undermine this policy but also disenfranchise the local populace” who are qualified and deserving of these positions.
Reiterating its demand on the cancellation of the appointments and adherence to the reservation policy, ACHIK said, there must be greater transparency in the recruitment process, including publicizing job openings in a manner that ensures local candidates are fully aware and able to apply.
