India-Myanmar border challenges discussed in Mizoram meetings

Aizawl, Jan 17: Major General Suresh Bhambhu, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East), held key discussions with Mizoram Governor General (Retd) Vijay Kumar Singh, Chief Minister Lalduhoma, and other senior officials on Friday to address the prevailing situation along the India-Myanmar border.

A defence spokesperson stated that the Major General briefed the Governor and the Chief Minister on the 510 km border’s current challenges and outlined the paramilitary forces’ preparedness to manage the frontier effectively.

In addition to these discussions, Maj Gen Bhambhu met with Chief Secretary Khilli Ram Meena and Director General of Police Anil Shukla to deliberate on border management challenges and ways to enhance coordination among stakeholders to address security concerns.

The Chief Minister’s Office confirmed the meeting on X (formerly Twitter), noting that the talks included security issues and the relocation of Assam Rifles headquarters from Aizawl to Zokhawsang.

The discussions underscored the importance of a cohesive approach to border security and managing cross-border challenges along the India-Myanmar frontier, which remains a critical issue for the region.
