Itanagar, Feb 8: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and several Manipur based organisation including influential Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) have hailed the Centre’s decision to fence the India-Myanmar border.
The support by the Arunachal CM came after the Eastern Naga Peoples Organisation and several other organisations had earlier opposed the Centre’s decision to fence the border strategically.
Taking to the press, CM Pema Khandu termed this endeavour as a great move in the right direction which will also protect the two nation borders.
Arunachal Chief Minister also thanked PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for implementing the decision to fence the borders along Myanmar.
Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh had also thanked the Home Minister for the centre’s decision to fence the Indo-Myanmar border.
COCOMI Spokesperson Khuraijam Athouba expressed his satisfaction on the Centre’s decision to fence the India-Myanmar border and also termed it very necessary.
The Centres decision to fence the entire 1,643-km-long India-Myanmar border will put an end to the misuse of border, and stop illegal activities of militant groups who often violate the Free Movement Regime between the two countries.
Earlier, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma had said that his government does not have the authority to stop the Centre from erecting border fencing along the India-Myanmar border and scrapping the FMR between the two countries, but it would definitely oppose both the moves.
