Intensive internship Program on Food and Water Analysis at NEHU Tura Campus, equips participants with R&D skills

Tura, June 15: The ten-day summer internship program on “Laboratory Techniques and Analysis of Food and Water” at North-Eastern Hill University Tura Campus concluded on Friday.

The program witnessed participation of 30 students from various institutions across India, including Vasanth Kishore and Sathivel from Karpagam University, Tamil Nadu, Desingan and Abdullah from Andhra Pradesh, Gokuljith from Kerala, and other students from different departments of NEHU.

Throughout the internship, participants engaged in two theoretical sessions and one practical session each day, covering a range of topics such as proximate analysis of food products, vitamins, sugars, TPC, TFC, TAC, total antioxidants, and water quality parameters like pH, TDS, hardness, iron, chloride, carbonate, total plate count, yeast and mold, and coliform bacteria. The program also included an industrial visit to the Megh Farm Processing Hub in Meghalaya, where students learned about large-scale dairy product manufacturing.

Participants left the program equipped with essential skills for analyzing food and water quality, which will aid their future careers in food processing industries and R&D laboratories.

The program, was sponsored by ICAR-NIBSM, Raipur, was part of NEHU Tura Campus’s ongoing efforts to provide capacity building, hands-on training, and workshops in collaboration with ICAR-NIBSM under the North East Hill Program. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between ICAR-NIBSM and NEHU, was signed in 2020 for a five-year period, facilitated this internship under the guidance of Dr. P. K. Ghosh, Director of ICAR-NIBSM, and Dr. P. Mooventhan, Senior Scientist and Nodal Officer of ICAR-NIBSM, Raipur.

The Incubation Centre, NEHU Tura Campus have been doing various capacity building programme, hands on training, workshops and also Agri-Horti and Apiculture input supports to various farmer cluster groups.
