Inter-Mahari Football Tourney: Koksi wrestles a difficult win, Simsang hand Kongkal a painful defeat

Tura, July 10: Chandmari Artificial Turf witnessed thrilling clashes as the Inter-Mahari Football tournament kicked off with a women’s category match and a fiercely contested men’s category encounter on Monday.

In the women’s category, the teams of Koski and Nengminja took to the field with high hopes of securing victory. Despite their relentless efforts to score goals, both teams remained deadlocked at 0-0 until the final whistle.

The tension escalated during the tiebreaker, where neither team managed to convert their chances on four separate occasions. However, in the fifth shootout, Koksi’s determination prevailed as they successfully found the back of the net against Nengminja, bringing an end to the gripping drama.

Meanwhile, in the men’s category, a match between Simsang and Kongkal promised an intriguing showdown.

Speculation arose that Meghalaya’s Chief Minister, hailing from Kongkal Mahari, might feature on Kongkal FC’s roster. Unfortunately, due to his busy schedule, he was unable to join the team, but he sent his best wishes to both squads.

The match commenced with Simsang launching aggressive attacks, aiming to take an early lead. Before the first half concluded, Simsang managed to find the net twice, leaving Kongkal trailing.

However, the second half witnessed a spirited comeback by the Kongkal team, scoring two goals to level the playing field. But a determined Simsang were able to find the back of the net one more time. Their solid defence also proved effective and they were able to hold Kongkal to 2 goals, securing their victory with a final scoreline of 3-2.

Adding to the excitement, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma’s mother, Soradini K Sangma, graced the stands, offering support to the Kongkal FC.
