Agartala, Jan 22: Regional parties IPFT and TIPRA in Tripura have put the national parties in a difficult spot by demanding assurance for a separate state – Greater Tipraland. Both have hinted that they have kept the scope of alliance open with BJP or even with the Left and Congress, but they would need a written assurance on constitutional solution to their core agenda of a Greater Tipraland, a demand of a separate state.
“Many political parties approached us but we can’t lie to our people, who have suffered more than 70 years. We have clearly said that we want constitutional solution in writing. Without them giving constitutional solution to our core demand, we will not ally with any political party because we cannot betray our people,” TIPRA Motha chief Pradyot Deb Burman said.
He said it has been far too many times that political parties have come and verbally promised them to fulfil their demand, but that promise gets forgotten after the elections.
“This time we are not prepared to take anything less than a written assurance from the government of India or from the political parties. Otherwise, we will fight the election… fight to win… and we will show the might of the indigenous people,” Deb Burman said.
