Agartala, Oct 29: The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) has announced plans to complete an organizational restructuring by November 10 in preparation for the upcoming village council elections in Tripura. The party, a key ally in the BJP-led state government, convened a meeting on Monday at Agartala Press Club, where senior leaders discussed strategies to boost their influence in tribal regions.
During a press briefing after the meeting, IPFT general secretary Swapna Debbarma revealed that district-level observers would be appointed as part of the restructuring effort to ensure effective election preparations across the state. These moves come as IPFT aims to strengthen its grassroots organization and engage tribal communities more actively ahead of the elections.
However, the question of alliances remains open. According to Debbarma, the IPFT has yet to decide whether it will run alongside the BJP, its long-time ally, or TIPRA Motha, another significant tribal party. “Our central executive committee will make this decision only after the official election dates are declared,” Debbarma stated.
The upcoming village council elections are expected to impact Tripura’s political landscape, especially in tribal-dominated areas where both IPFT and TIPRA Motha hold substantial influence.
