SHILLONG, JAN 8: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Transport Sniawbhalang Dhar on Wednesday said the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Mawlai Mawiong will again be made fully functional once the alternative road from Mawlai-bypass to Shillong Airport is completed within this year.
“We keep insisting the PWD department finish this alternative road very fast. They are on the job. As soon as this road is completed from Mawlai bypass, they can use it as usual,” Dhar told reporters.
He said that the PWD is likely to complete the construction of the alternative road by the end of this year.
“We keep having a meeting with them (PWD) and we requested them to please (complete the road) at the earliest possible,” he added.
On the alleged misuse of the ISBT by anti-social elements, Dhar said, “My officers are visiting the ISBT from time to time and so far, there is no report about such anti-social elements (in the premises).”
Further, the deputy CM said that the government did not want to go for a temporary solution because it wanted to go for a permanent solution by constructing the alternative road.
He however said concerns regarding basic amenities like toilets, the matter have been discussed with the tourism department to address this since buses are operating from Umiam.
